  • What is TannerUnderwater?
    TannerUnderwater LLC is a premier shark diving and underwater adventure company based in Jupiter, Florida. We run daily trips that bring guests face-to-face with sharks, and we also provide professional underwater film services for productions like National Geographic, BBC, and Shark Week.

  • Is shark diving safe?
    Yes. Safety is our top priority. Every trip has two professional guides in the water and a captain on the boat. Our full-time safety divers are experienced professionals who are there for your safety and comfort.

    Do I need experience?
    No prior experience is required. Most of our guests are first-timers. You’ll receive full guidance and equipment, and our safety team ensures a comfortable, exciting, and safe adventure.

    Can I freedive?
    If you’re a qualified freediver, yes, you’ll have the opportunity. If it’s your first shark dive, we recommend staying at the surface and enjoying the action from there.

    Can I touch the sharks?
    No. Sharks are wild apex predators, not pets. Touching them is unsafe for you and disrespectful to the animals.

  • Will we see sharks?
    Encounters are extremely reliable. In over seven years and thousands of trips, we’ve only missed sharks a handful of times. If it happens, we’ll refund your trip.

    How do sharks behave around people?
    Sharks are intelligent, cautious, and curious. They see us as another apex predator, not food. With calm body language, they typically avoid us and if they do approach, it is slowly and carefully. Each shark is unique, and behavior varies by species, individual, and conditions.

    What kinds of sharks do we see?

    • Winter: Bull sharks, lemon sharks, hammerheads, occasionally tigers

    • Spring–Summer: Silky sharks, sandbar sharks, dusky sharks, Caribbean reef sharks, bull sharks, lemon sharks, hammerhead sharks, oceanic blacktip sharks

    • Year-round: Bull sharks, Lemon sharks, Hammerheads, occasional tiger sharks
      Each season brings different highlights, there’s no single “best time.”

    Can sharks smell menstruation?
    This is one of the most common questions I get. The answer, it is not going to make a difference. These sharks have evolved to sense the sounds and vibrations of struggling fish, the smell of fish blood, they won’t notice you and even if they did, they aren’t going to care. With these sharks, it can take a lot to get them close, and even with the smell of bleeding fish it can be hard to keep them around.

  • When is the best time to come?
    Sharks are here year-round.

    • Spring–Summer (May–Aug): Calm seas, pelagic migrations, fewer cancellations.

    • Winter (Nov–Feb): Stronger winds, but bull sharks and hammerheads are common.
      No matter when you come, there’s always action.

    How long is the trip?
    About 3 hours total: 20-40 minutes to the site, 60–90 minutes in the water, then 20-40 minutes back. It will depend on ocean conditions and how quickly we get sharks.

    How far is it from Miami or Fort Lauderdale?

    • Miami: ~2.5 to 3 hours (with traffic)

    • Fort Lauderdale: ~1.5 hours

    What about weather cancellations?
    We constantly monitor conditions. Trips may be rescheduled for strong winds, storms, or hurricanes. If conditions are unsafe, you’ll be refunded or rescheduled.

  • What should I wear?
    Dark colors work best. Long-sleeve black top, black bottoms, and gloves are ideal. Bring your own wetsuit or rash guard if you have one, we provide them if not.

    What should I bring?
    We provide masks, snorkels, fins, wetsuits, and rash guards. If you own gear you’re comfortable with, bring it along.

    When will I receive my photo/video package?
    Photos and videos are sent via email within 1–3 days (sometimes the same day, rarely up to 5). If you don’t receive them within 5 days, contact our booking manager at (561) 441-0593. He’ll make sure your photographer is aware and gets your files sent over promptly.

    Are cameras allowed?
    For safety reasons, we ask guests not to bring personal cameras. Sharks are highly curious about the electrical signal they emit. Instead, our professional photographers will capture the best footage for you.

  • Where is the best shark diving in the world?
    Right here in Jupiter, Florida is one of the best places in the world to see sharks. Just a few miles offshore, the Gulf Stream brings nutrient-rich waters that attract an incredible variety of sharks year-round.

    Is it scuba or snorkeling?
    All trips are snorkeling and freediving, no scuba tanks required.
